Labors of Memoir
Labors of Memoir
Birgit Rogers
Fossilized memories
crack slowly
Like the crust of a scab
oozing its contents
Slowly, painfully, deliberately.
Once revealed
Fibers of the past
filter the cobwebs of the soul
Bringing forth light
where darkness lived
Slowly, painfully, carefully.
Repressed sorrow
Pain of times gone by
claws the marrow of resistance
Catharsis wounding
peeling back the skin
Slowly, painfully, meticulously.
Once veiled
The child bleeds tears
from heart and soul
Salt cleansing deep
exposing pain untold
Let go!
cries the adult
soothing the child
Slowly, painfully, lovingly.
Revelation's dam
bursts wide
and far
and deep in scope
Exorcising
what is trapped
within its snare
Surprising joy
springs forth
and leaps
with hope
Quickly!
Effortlessly!
Joyfully!
