Calcium Curl

Calcium Curl

Megan Leech

How it forms, no one knows.
Calcium collects, wraps, curls, and unfurls its strength,
Protecting a sponge-like innocence within.

Ivory hues tinged with rose,
Caressed by the gentle waves
And thrashed by the violent tides.
Gentle lips part to expose
The grime of centuries contained within.

Where it’s been, no one knows.
Traversing deep crevasses and moraines,
Unseen by the world above --
Stealthily making its way to and fro,
As if conveyed by the spindly,
Gossamer thread of destiny.

What its purpose is, no one knows.
To shelter, protect, and deter ages of enemies.
To spark the enthusiasm of a child.
To suffer the confines of thread and human
vanity.
To wash up among the sands of time.
To wrap, entwine, and unfurl
The calcium curl of eternity.
