My Narrative

A yellow truck pulled into a driveway, free spiders and spider webs. I walked outside as plump as a plum, and I looked like one too. As soon as I heard the enormous truck I stepped outside excited to unpack memories from Tennessee and to start new ones in Colorado. I breathed to see my steaming breath in the snowy air and watch it disappear.

My dad came out of the car just as excited as I was. Get your stuff and start unpacking. Okay, I said trying to conceal my joy.

I walked to the back of the truck and climbed the ramp. I put my frostbitten fingers under the box and tried to pick it up but it wouldnt budge. My dad laughing hysterically told me to go inside and help my mother and to tell my sister to come and help him.

I went inside the house, disappointed and yet grateful to get out of the cold.

Can I help you.?

Um.um take the dog walking.

By myself?

Yes, please.

Okay. Are ya sure?

Yep.

Okay. I ran upstairs feeling powerful.

I took the red leash, my gloves and hat and walked out of my brand new room.

I sprinted down the stairs then I realized I forgot the dog. Before anyone could see me I sprinted up the stairs again and got the dog, Ruddie.

The cold air on my checks felt a mixture of good and bad feelings. My big black clunky shoes pounding against the concrete made a song with the breathing of my dog.

We didnt have the whole park to ourselves but it felt like it. Ruddie was behaving well as if she knew the importance of the walk. I also was constantly giving treats.

We were almost home when Ruddie saw another dog across the field I was having the walk of my life and didnt notice this until I felt a sudden jerk. I was being pulled halfway across the field on my belly like a penguin doing down a hill. I finally let go after what seemed like an hour but only a couple of minutes.

I walked back home furious with my dog. So mad, I locked her in her cage. Although I laugh about it now, I still sometimes get mad at Ruddie, but she pulled me across the park for a reason and that is always have control over the dog- you never know whats going to happen.
