The age four was my year of memories. With the buzz of the lawn mower in the background my sister Mollie, then seven, and I four began our biggest adventure ever. Mollie had swayed me to climb an aspen tree in our backyard; of course, I was nave and said, "Sure." It never occurred to me to ask why she would not climb and I stay on the ground.
So we gathered our one useless supply, a dog leash, which only gave me a better chance of falling if she accidentally pulled it. We strode over to the colossal tree determined to accomplish our mission. As I climbed the tree it felt as though I were getting closer to outer space, but almost as soon as I was up I was down. I burst in to hysterics as I felt a sharp pain go straight up my right leg. My grandma and brother rushed out to see what all the turmoil was about. Just before that my sister ran to get my dad away from his yard work. When my father came he tried to bribe me by saying, "I will buy you a toy." Of course I wanted a toy so I crawled to his feet. Then he knew something was wrong. So he picked me up like a feather and carried me to his beat up corvette.
In the emergency room it took forever to get in, but I was so cute I was taken first. I lay in the room until a tall man with dark hair and a doctor's coat began to examine and ask me questions. Of course I was reserved and would not ask any questions just whimper at the pain. After a million x-rays they had the results I had broken my leg. The doctor gave me a Popsicle because I was such an excellent patient.
Now that I look back on that day I realize how it defined me as a person. Now instead of having someone do something for me I do it myself. Also, I consider all of the risks before I do something.
