Perennial Promenade

Perennial Promenade

Rachael Kessler

Purple Cornflower

Echinacea

Black-eyed Susan

in a different

skirt.

Rosy purple petals

bow to the beehive like

center.

Dry them and

simmer in a cup of tea.

Soon the flu bug

will flee.

Yarrow

Achillea

A nuisance to my naive,

weed-wacking

husband.

Majestic tall stems

SHOOT like fireworks

out of the

fernlike hill,

only

to be adorned

with flat clusters of

gold-plated flowers,

surely a butterfly's

resting place,

a nectar enchantment.

Dry them for an everlasting

arrangement.

Flax

Linum

Whimsical stems

Dance in the breeze

As the morning dew trickles down

The narrow, short leaves.

Peacock blue flowers

Curtsy elusively

Over the erratic branches.

Dry them? Of course not,

For the overlapping petals

Last just one day

To greet the sun

And play.
