Attention Young Writers! Do you love to write? Are you a budding poet, flourishing storywriter, or even future famous author? Would you like to write in a relaxed, social atmosphere? If so, join us for Young Writers Camp at CU-Denver’s scenic Auraria Campus!
Spend a fun-filled week of your summer with other young writers exploring and developing your own creative writing abilities. Who knows whom you’ll meet and what you’ll write? The only way to find out is to apply today.
Option 1: Digital Storytelling
Ages: 10-13
Experience writing in a whole new way! Writers are expected to come to the camp with a one-page, single-spaced, non-fiction story.
You will need to apply for a password before you will be allowed to view any stories. Campers will learn how to enhance their personal stories using pictures, images, graphics, and music. Throughout the week we will team up with the other camps to enjoy guest speakers from different fields of writing. We do not expect writers who apply for this camp to have much experience with computers. In fact, we welcome first time digital storytellers; writers with digital storytelling experience should probably not apply.
Option 2: Entertainment Writers
Ages: 10-13
Food, celebrities, books, fashion, arts, music, and movies . . . what’s hot and what’s not! You’ll discuss the latest trends and write your own newspaper reviews. There will be a collaboration among grade levels for newspaper production with plenty of age-appropriate break-out activities for everyone!
Option 3: Writers Workshop
Ages 14-16
Writers Workshop is geared for the teen writer who is interested in enriching his or her writing life and experiences. Participants will be expected to bring one or two pieces of writing that they would like to share in a writer’s group and workshop. The goal is to have one or two polished pieces by the end of the week that will be published in our online anthology. Additionally, each day we will focus on a different genre of writing. Teen writers will also have the opportunity to participate in daily writing workshops with guest writers from the Denver community. Writers also love to read! Teen writers will partake in discussions about what they are reading, recommend books, and discuss some shorter pieces of writing throughout the week.
Fees: $150 check or money order made out to UCD-HSC.
